Pedersen grateful to Allardyce

Blackburn Rovers' Morten Gamst Pedersen has credited Sam Allardyce with turning around his and the club's season.

When the former Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United manager took over from the sacked Paul Ince in mid-December, Rovers were in deep trouble, second-bottom of the Barclays Premier League with just 16 points from 18 matches.

In the 18 matches since then Blackburn have accumulated 24 points and, barring a highly unlikely series of results, are safe for another season.

Pedersen, who in Saturday's 2-0 win over Portsmouth scored his first goal since the final day of last season, believes Allardyce's influence should not go unrecognised.

great feeling

"I think we were something like five points from safety when he came in," he said.

"He has been doing loads of good things and the form of the team, and especially myself, has been getting better and better with every game we've played.

"Now we are going to try to finish the season off with a little bit of style and pride and have a good end with the fans at Ewood Park against West Brom.

"First we have Chelsea, and we can go there with a smile on our face, it is a great feeling."
