Match preview - Mon 18th May

A look ahead to Monday's fixture in the Barclays Premier League.

Portsmouth are now safe from the threat of relegation.

Newcastle United's home defeat by Fulham and Hull City's draw at Bolton Wanderers mean Pompey cannot be caught.

Sunderland are still nervously looking over their shoulders but know they would also preserve their top-flight status by picking up a victory from this match.

fifth victory

A draw would give the Black Cats a three-point advantage over their north-east rivals with the goal difference too tight to call on the final day.

Portsmouth are looking for a fifth victory in their last six Premier League meetings with Sunderland.

But the hosts have not scored in their last four, while Sunderland have not netted in three matches.

They have also not won a top-flight match at the south coast club in 51 years.
