Newcastle United were plunged deep in to relegation danger as Fulham won 1-0 at St James' Park.
Mark Viduka was denied a crucial equaliser as Newcastle slipped back into relegation trouble.
The Australian saw a 50th-minute header chalked off for a foul on keeper Mark Schwarzer by Kevin Nolan after Diomansy Kamara had given Fulham a first-half lead.
Obafemi Martins, who had earlier hit the post, forced a superb 78th-minute save from Schwarzer, who then kept out Nicky Butt's injury-time effort, to leave the Magpies, who had Sebastien Bassong dismissed on the hour, facing a life-or-death trip to Aston Villa next Sunday when even victory might not be enough.
