Anton taking advice from Rio

Anton Ferdinand is taking advice from older brother Rio as he looks to help Sunderland avoid relegation.

The Black Cats centre-back is constantly in touch with the Manchester United and England star as he aims to keep his performances at the highest level.

Ricky Sbragia's north-east outfit are only two points above the bottom three with just two matches of the season remaining.

They travel to Portsmouth on Monday night before welcoming Chelsea to the Stadium of Light on the final day of the season.

And Anton hopes that the input of his elder sibling, who is on the brink of title glory at Old Trafford for a third successive season, will aid his efforts.

He said: "There's no-one better to have than the best defender in the world as your brother.

"He's always on the end of the phone line to talk to or quite often I'll send him tapes of my games.

"He likes to watch and let me know what I'm doing right or wrong.

"When I play, the last thing I remind myself is that I can't let the family name down.

"But it goes both ways. If I see he hasn't done something to the best of his ability, I'll text him."
